Goodreads Summary
When Josie and her brothers uncover a haunted camera, the Mothman legend becomes a terrifying reality that threatens their entire town in this spooky and action-filled novel. Josie may live in the most haunted town in America, but the only strange thing she ever sees is the parade of oddball customers that comes through her family’s auction house each week. But when she and her brothers discover a Polaroid camera that prints pictures of the ghost of local recluse John Goodrich, they are drawn into a mystery dating back over a hundred years. A desperate spirit, cursed jewelry, natural disasters, and the horrible specter of Mothman all weave in and out of the puzzle that Josie must solve to break the curse and save her own life.
My Review
Another sensational middle grade book! The story was intriguing, very fun and spooky at times. I loved Josie, Fox, and cute little Mason. Aunt Barb was also great. I loved how ambitious and smart the main characters were. Josie and Fox both were fantastic. Their love and concern for their family and especially each other, was very enduring and what drove them to figure out their problem(s). I don't want to spoil what happens, but it is big and not only involves them, but thousands. I loved the background of the auction house, and how Fox would peddle leftover items as "haunted". The Mothman legend was eerie and how John Goodrich was involved also made for a great story.
5 out of 5 stars. I can't wait for more from this author.

Hashbrown Winters and the Phantom of Pordunce by Frank L. Cole
Hashbrown Winter and the Phantom of Pordunce
Author: Frank L. Cole
Publisher: Bonneville
Paperback: 88 pages
ISBN13: 9781599553986
FTC FYI: Received a PDF review copy.
Goodreads Summary
Life at Pordunce is back to normal - well, as normal as ever in the three-ring circus that passes for Hashbrown's elementary school. But everything changes when a ghostly presence starts roaming the halls. And even worse, Hashbrown's club may be about to lose one of its founding members. Can Hashbrown save the day? This snort-worthy, fun-filled roller-coaster ride of a book is guaranteed to get you giggling - assuming you can pry it away from your kids long enough to read it yourself.
Back Cover
"A ghost in Pordunce!" Butter Bibowksi said in disbelief. "How's this even possible?"
"It's not that hard to believe." Snow Cone tucked the transmitter in his back pocket. "We've all heard the rumors about the ancient burial grounds beneath the septic tank."
"But those are just rumors," Whiz said.
"There are never just rumors at Pordunce," I reminded him.
Hashbrown Winters is finally settling into the good life. But when a mysterious phantom begins haunting the school and Hashbrown's treehouse is hijacked, he knows he's up to his armpits in trouble. And if that weren't enough, there's a new girl in school who might just be his match--in marbles, that is. Not to mention the fact that Bubblegum Bulkins, an original member of the treehouse club, is moving in just two weeks. Now Hashbrown will have to rely on a few unexpected allies to save his friends, his treehouse, and his entire school.
The third installment in the best-selling Hashbrown Winters series takes the adventure to a whole new level. Stuffed fill of pitch-perfect humor the whole family will love, this book all your old favorite characters along with some awesome additions. A guaranteed page-turner and laugh-out loud winner, this is one story you just can't miss.
My Review
4 out of 5 stars. Another hit for Hashbrown and the gang. I loved the fun twist of Hashbrown having a rival marble champion. Melanie is a great character and her brother Nugget is a hoot. Just don't get him mad... Look out if you do. Hashbrown and his gang's antics are enjoyable for kids and adults. You will enjoy helping them figure out who the phantom is, and why he or she is out to get everyone. Including innocent hamsters. I can't wait to see what is in store for them in Book 4. Hashbrown Winters and the Whiz-tastrophe comes out next month.

Replacing Gentry by Julie N. Ford -- Blog Tour/Giveaway
![]() |
Tour Schedule |
Replacing Gentry
When Marlie agrees to attend a cadaver ball at Vanderbilt Medical School, she did not expect to actually see any cadavers. Or, that a strange apparition would issue her a chilling message.
Despite the cadaver's warning, Marlie is married a year later to Tennessee State Senator, Daniel Cannon, and living in a plantation-style mansion with two step sons. Add to the mix her growing suspicion that something is amiss with the death of Daniel’s first wife, Gentry; and newlywed Marlie is definitely in over her pretty Yankee head.
What begins as an innocent inquiry into her new husband’s clouded past, ends with Marlie in the midst of a dangerous conspiracy.
A modern twist on the classic Gothic romance novels of Rebecca and Jane Eyre, Replacing Gentry follows Marlie’s precarious journey as she learns the truth about the man she married.
My Review
4 out of 5 stars. I was taken into this story very quickly. Marlie is a spunky character that goes after what she wants, no matter what the cost. Replacing Gentry is quite the page turner too. It's a fast paced story with very cool twists and turns. I had my suspicions about the "big reveal", but it was written well. This book is full with lots of surprises and you really don't know who to trust.
FTC FYI: I received a PDF review copy.
Replacing Gentry will be released on April 9th

Goodreads Summary
Kadence Reynold’s favorite pastime is exploring old ghost towns. When she and her sister, Maysha stumble across an old journal and cheap pendant hidden in the depths of a crumbling foundation near Eureka, Utah, their world is suddenly turned upside down. Immediately, strange dreams and premonitions begin to haunt “Kadie” as she learns more about the keeper of the journal, Charlotte Clark. Kadie sets out on a journey to learn more about Charlotte and her family, and she and Maysha travel to Bremerton, Washington, where they discover Charlotte's still living twin sister, Adelaide and her family.
My Review
4 out of 5 stars. I was excited to a part of this Blog Tour. When I read the summary, I knew I would enjoy the book. I was right. I was also drawn to the cover, isn't is pretty? Kadie is a great character, and her sister Maysha added some really funny comic relief. I really liked where the story took me as a reader. I love the Washington area, having visited there a few years ago. After arriving Kadie meets Adelaide and her family, and that is where the story really picks up. Something terrible happens to Kadie and Adelaide's grandson Logan. I also enjoyed the point of view switches between Logan and Kadie. The story is mostly told through Kadie's point of view, but when it is necessary, I am excited to see what's going on in another character's head. The author does a great job of that. The ending of this book is so exciting, I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen.

Published: September 2012
ISBN13: 9781475177190
Paperback: 391 pages
FTC FYI: I received an ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.
Goodreads Summary
When Evie falls in love with Calvin Knight, their young, virtuous romance conjures a truly wicked spell.
Evie always thought her eighteenth year would be magical, but so far it's not what she hoped for. Her best friend has gone wild, her love life is void, and she misses her mom more than ever. But life for Evie is about to change. Calvin Knight, the object of her fascination, is about to fall madly in love with her. Just one problem: Their love conjures a murderous woman from beyond the grave who wants Evie dead. The same demon who has haunted the Knight men for over four generations. Soon Calvin is forced to make a choice: Set Evie free and hope to evade the wrath of The Raven- haired Ghost, or use his newly gifted strengths to fight against her. If he chooses to fight and wins, Calvin will free the Knight men of this demonic witch. If he loses, Evie will become her next victim.
My Review
I was very excited to be a part of the Blog Tour for Evie's Knight. In reading the book I found heart stopping romance, heart pounding suspense, and all around enjoyment. There were some parts of the book; Evie's past with her mother, and an ex-boyfriend that kept being mentioned that I thought didn't need to be in there, but I liked getting to know Evie and Calvin and their growing relationship. At times, I thought it took too long to get the "fantasy" part of the book where we find out about Calvin and Parker's family secret. That being said, I enjoyed the story, and think Kimberly did a fabulous job in creating an exciting clean romance for all readers that was exhilarating too.

Heart of the Ocean by Heather B. Moore -- Blog Tour/Guest Post
Heart of the Ocean
Author: Heather B. Moore
Publisher: Mirror Press
Published: January 4th, 2013
Genre: historical romance
ISBN13:
ebook: 305 pages
FTC FYI: Received an ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.
Goodreads Summary:
A dark secret . . . a grieving ghost . . . a handsome stranger . . . What more could Eliza Robinson want?
Except for maybe her life.
In Heather B. Moore’s enthralling 1840’s historical romance, Heart of the Ocean, Eliza Robinson has turned down the very pretentious Mr. Thomas Beesley’s marriage proposal. As a business partner of Eliza’s father, Thomas quickly discredits the family and brings disgrace to the Robinson name.
While her father scrambles to restore his good name in New York City, Eliza flees to the remote Puritan town of Maybrook to stay with her Aunt Maeve. Although relieved to be away from all- things-male and unforgiving gossip columns, odd things start to happen to Eliza, and she is plagued by a ghostly voice. Her aunt’s explanation? That Eliza is being haunted by a woman who died of a broken heart twenty years ago.
After Aunt Maeve is tragically killed, Eliza's life is put in danger as she tries to uncover the mystery of her aunt's death. She encounters Jonathan Porter in Maybrook, whose presence in the town seems suspicious, yet she finds herself drawn to him. When she discovers that Jonathan’s dark secrets may be the link between the dead woman who haunts her and her aunt’s murderer, Eliza realizes that Jonathan is the one man she should never trust.
Guest Post from Heather
MinReads: Heather, you have released many books, with many out right now. What is your favorite genre to write? Why?
Heather: Although I've had a lot of fun writing contemporary, I think I still prefer to write historical. There is more world-building that goes on and details that are neat to include that don't really have a place in contemporary. I love to read historical, so it's probably natural that it's my favorite genre to write. It's more of an "escape" from the demands of life around me, and it's fun to imagine how the constraints of the era would have played a role in the characters' lives.
MinReads: Thank you Heather!
My Review
Eliza is going through a hard time. She has turned down the proposal of her father's business partner, and flees to Maybrook, a Puritan town, to stay with her aunt. While she is there, Eliza keeps hearing voices in the wind. Her aunt Maeve tells the story of a Puritan woman who's heart is broken by the love of her life, and how she died of a broken heart. Eliza can't escape what the voice is trying to tell her. When Maeve dies, her life is put in danger and she is rescued by Jonathan Porter, who has secrets of his own.
Heather is such a talented writer and has a magical way of drawing you right into her books with her well-written characters and page turning plots. There is a lot to this story, and I really enjoyed the journey of these great characters.
4 out of 5 stars. Heather is the author of many fabulous books. Read them, and you will see what I am talking about. Her latest book Athena is part of the Newport Ladies Book Club and is out now!

Goodreads summary: Can a troubled young girl reenter society after living in isolation?
When a beautiful 16-year-old girl named Sophie is found sequestered in a cage-like room in a rundown house in the desolate hills of Arbon Valley, Idaho, the entire community is shocked to learn she is the legendary Callidora--a baby girl who was kidnapped from her crib almost seventeen years ago and canonized in missing posters with portraits of what the fabled girl might resemble. Authorities soon learn that the cage was there to protect people from Sophie, because her biological father believes she is cursed.
Sophie is discovered after the man she knows as Papa, shoots and injures Damien, a young man who is trying to rescue her. Now, unsocialized and thrust into the world, and into a family she has never met, Sophie must decide whether she should accept her Papa’s claims that she is cursed and he was only trying to protect others, or trust the new people in her life who have their own agendas. Guided by a wise cousin, Sophie realizes that her most heartbreaking challenge is to decide if her love for Damien will destroy him like her Papa claims, or free her from past demons that haunt her mind.
My Review
Sophie has just been "rescued" from living a life of isolation thrust on her by her father. As he is being taken away by the police, he tells her,
"I love you Sophie. Please know that. I've always loved you. That is why this happening now.
It was the only time my father ever told me he loved me, and now he did it with such fervor it made my skin prickle. The words didn't comfort, they left me feeling scared and abandoned. I nodded and sat on my bed. He took a last look at me, then put his hand to his mouth and left my doorway. I knew we were in trouble, but I didn't know what would happen next."
Sophie's life has not only been of isolation, but of fear. Not from her father necessarily, but of the curse that he said follows them. Papa tells her of ghosts in the fields, and how he needed to protect their secret. Now she is living with her grandparents, scared and confused. She befriends her step cousin Stephanie, and is home schooled by her Uncle Lonny. Her aunt Elise's new husband.
There is so much more to this story, I don't want to give many more details. Just know this, I loved how this story is told. It is told in past and present, with a couple POV changes. I was always kept in the story, and the author would brilliantly end the chapters with me wanting more. The story is told from Sophie's point of view in the present and past, and her father's in the past as well. We learn so much through his eyes, just as much as Sophie's. Sophie's fear is the curse, will she get over it for her to move with her life. You will enjoy reading for that answer.
Content
There are a few content issues I should warn you about. There is pre-maritial sex, but no details. An icky uncle. Smoking, and language. Nothing I was offended by.
4 out of 5 stars. This is the first book I have read from Brenda Stanley. I really enjoyed it. Brenda Stanley is the former news anchor at her NBC affiliate KPVI in Eastern Iadho. Her writing has been recognized by the Scripps Howard Foundation, the Hearst Journalism Awards, the Idaho Press Club and the Society for Professional Journalists. She is a graduate of Dixie College in St. George, Utah, and the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Brenda lived for two years in Ballard, Utah, within the Fort Duchesne reservation where the novel is set. She and her husband live on a small ranch near the Snake River with their horses and dogs.

Goodreads summary: Claire is struggling to overcome the murder of her childhood friend and secret crush, Daniel. Everyone else seems to be moving on with their lives, but she's still trying to cope. The fact that she finds herself alone and drowning on her 16th birthday isn't helping.
Neither is thinking she sees Daniel's face in murky water as she mysteriously resurfaces. But something happened during those four and a half minutes that will make her realize it was not just her imagination.
As Claire and Daniel try to grasp a possible reconnection, other grudge-holding beings have plans of their own. Now, the two of them have to decide if their fleeting relationship is worth the possibility of Claire being trapped on the fringe forever.
Beautifully told, On the Fringe intertwines fresh ideas about devotion, revenge, and the consequences that come with life and death."
Right when Claire and Daniel are starting to realize they like each other, Daniel is killed in shooting. They have known each other for years, and Claire is best friends with Daniel's sister, Addie. While Daniel is best friends with Matthew, Claire's brother. In the beginning of the book, you get to know the characters and be with them for some of their escapades.
I love the way this book is written. It is told in Claire's and Daniel's perspective, and a bit in flashback form. Very clever, and written well. This book was so enjoyable and the characters were engaging. My favorite was Daniel. I felt myself cheering for Claire and Daniel even though... oops, I can't tell you all that. You will have to read this entertaining book to find out all the fun secrets. It was very intense in some scenes, and spooky too. There is someone out there on the fringe who wants to hurt Claire, and they need to find out why.
