With Adam’s lies that sound like truths and rumors that Alex isn’t really a Firemaker—or a man—Gabby sets out to charter a Council of her own. In order to uncover the truth, Gabby will have to learn who she can trust, how to control her own power, and most of all, how to lead a Council of Elementals, most of whom have more control over their power than she does. If she can’t, she’ll find herself just like those 17 schoolmates: burned and six feet under.
My Review
We meet Gabby the night of a council meeting where her friend Jarvis, a Firemaker, is about to choose his council. Gabby wants him to pick her so she can start over with a new life. Gabby herself is a Firemaker, but has hide it from everyone. Only men are Firemakers and she doesn't want to be exiled. A fire is set in her city and she is blamed for it. Jarvis advises her to run. She meets Adam, an outcast who has secrets of his own. She doesn't know if she can trust him, but she has nowhere else to go.
Elemental Hunger starts off strong and doesn't stop until the end. I kept reading and reading and reading and when I finally looked at the clock, it was way past midnight. I enjoyed this world that Elana has created. The powers of the Manifested are very, very cool and Gabby especially was a favorite. I enjoyed her journey of figuring out who she is and what she can do. Along the way she and Adam meet Hanai, who is also learning what types of powers he has, who I instantly loved. There are is danger, suspense, action with the cool powers and some cool twists that left me screaming, NO WAY and OH NO!
4 out of 5 stars. Content: there is some kissing and a scene where Gabby is in danger with a guy, but nothing offensive. I will definitely be reading the novellas in this series.
