Tour review of GRETA EVER AFTER by Melissa Dassori

Genre:
 Middle Grade, Fantasy
Publishing date: August 19, 2025

Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble | IndieBound

Synopsis:

In this modern-day fairytale, Greta struggles to make her mark until she succumbs to the mischief of an enchanted doll.

Greta Starr has one dream: to be a famous reporter. Unfortunately she’s been assigned to write for the paper’s most boring beat, and she feels stuck. Then, on her twelfth birthday, Greta receives a mysterious cuckoo clock with a wooden dancer named Lulu inside. Every hour, the doll twirls in time with the music—until one night she comes to life. Lulu is infused with magic and mischief. With Lulu’s sly encouragement, Greta engineers a feel-good story to report, setting in motion a series of remarkable, if deceitful, happy endings at school that help Greta gain popularity. But when the truth threatens Greta’s friendships, she is confronted with very real consequences that Lulu’s magic can’t fix.

This coming-of-age story explores the blurred line between fact and fiction as Greta realizes the key to being a great reporter—and a great friend—is striving for truth, not perfection.

MY REVIEW

I love middle grade fantasy and this book had so many fun twists, adding in lessons learned along the way.

If you had a chance to leave your problems behind would you do it? Greta meets the magical Lulu in a coocoo clock she receives for her 12th birthday. Greta’s love of fairytales and Into the Woods is woven through the story. Possibly Grimm Lulu offers Greta a chance to start over, but there are consequences. Meanwhile Greta is trying to find her to place in the school paper (I enjoyed the headlines), and the musical, and makes mistakes along the way.

With the mistakes, there are lessons learned. There are many relatable moments as a theme: middle school is challenging, lies have a way to find us, sometimes our friends shine, maybe they’re better at things than we are. But things always get better and there is value in family and friend relationships.

The illustrations were darling and added so much the story too.

4 out of 5 stars.

Melissa Dassori lives in New York City with her husband and three daughters, with whom she especially likes to enjoy books, travel, time outside and ice cream. Melissa’s middle grade debut, J.R. Silver Writes Her World, was published in 2022 by Christy Ottaviano Books/Little, Brown BYR. An assignment from her own fourth grade teacher inspired the story, although Melissa couldn’t conjure the same magical results that J.R. Silver can. Her next middle grade novel, Greta Ever After (Ottaviano/LBYR), will be out in August 2025.

Sense and Suitability by Pepper Basham review blitz and giveaway

Sense and Suitability Takeover + Review Blitz

Welcome to the Takeover + Review Blitz for Sense and Suitability by Pepper Basham, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

About the Book

Sense and Suitability

Title: Sense and Suitability
Author: Pepper Basham
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Release Date: September 23, 2025
Genre: Clean Regency Romance (Rom-Com)

In this clean Regency romance, a woman with a scandalous past (and an even more scandalous secret) swears off love--until the man who broke her heart needs her help. What could possibly go wrong?

After two failed social seasons, her family may think the third time will be a charm, but Emmeline Lockhart just wants to survive with her dignity (and singleness) intact. She thought she'd found her perfect match in Simon Reeves--charming, handsome, a veritable hero from a novel--until he vanished from her life without so much as a "farewell" or "my deepest regrets" (or even a vague apology scribbled on the back of a calling card). Lesson learned: never fall for a man known for his charm.

Fortunately, and unlike many of the other eligible young ladies of the ton, Emmeline has no need for a husband--because she's already found success in her scandalous (and very anonymous) profession as an author. Why bother with matrimony when she can make her own fortune and write men exactly the way she wants them?

But fate--or the misfortune of Simon's reckless patriarchs--has other plans. Simon's once-proud estate is in shambles, his family fortune has been gambled away, and the younger impressionable siblings in his care are running wild across his estate (and possibly across all of England). Simon is in desperate need of a wealthy, prestigious bride . . . and a friend.

Emmeline may not fit the role of heiress, but she can certainly be a friend. Just a friend. She'll help him find a suitable match, ensure his reputation remains intact, and keep things strictly platonic--no matter how dangerously appealing his new-and-improved sincerity and regret may be.

There's just one small problem: the undeniable chemistry that still smolders between them. Can Emme play matchmaker for the man she's still in love with without losing her heart all over again? And is it possible that some love stories--especially the messy, inconvenient, impossible ones--are worthy of a rewrite?

REVIEW

I absolutely love Basham’s books so I was very excited to participate in a review blast of her first regency romance. Not only is the story wonderful, it’s full of delightful banter, smart and authoress FMC, and a roguish MMC, I was immediately hooked. There are also mentions of my favorite Jane Austen book, Sense and Sensibility. Simon’s appreciation of the book and his comparisons to characters was enduring.

I am saying this a lot, but oh well! I also loved that Emme was an author is disguise and how it helped her family and other happenings. (I don’t want to say too much!)

We meet Emme and Simon when she’s expecting a proposal but all Emme receives is a rejection and no answers. Two seasons later, they see each there again, and Simon is in need of help and the sweet, selfless Emme offers to help him find a governess for Simon’s siblings and a rich wife for him. All while the two are fighting their feelings for each other.

The characters in this book are so well done. Simon’s siblings are adorable. The name of the pet frog, Blast, and its antics had me laughing. I loved Aunt Bean with her lessons and the in the end for Aunt Agatha. The ending was perfectly done. There are some pretty great kisses mixed in too.

The audio narrators, Fiona Hardington and Christopher Ashman, do an excellent job. I especially loved Hardington’s voices for the kids. Each narrator brings so much to the already lovely story.

5 stars!
