Second Chance

Series: Griffin Force

200 pages

FTC FYI: I received a ebook from the author. All opinions and views expressed are my own.

Book description

A mission to capture the world's most wanted terrorist. A computer tech sent in undercover. And a woman with a secret that could change everything.

Griffin Force tracks the world's most wanted terrorist to Libya, but the only one on their team that can infiltrate his lair is Augie---their computer tech. Their Libyan contact sends in a young man to help protect Augie during the assignment, but he’s hiding something and Augie doesn’t trust him.

When the simple observe-and-report mission turns into a much bigger operation, Augie must figure out how to alert Griffin Force to Atwah’s deadly plans without compromising his cover. But things get complicated when Augie discovers the secret of the young man with him. Now he’ll have to find a way to stop Atwah and keep both of them alive---or he’ll die trying.

My review

Second Chance is a fast-paced thrill ride that does not let go until you are turning that last page. I love these types of books! Where you think you might anticipate what is next for the characters, but then you are thrown in a different direction. Julie Coulter Bellon is a master at this. The character development is well done and each character is a strong addition to the story. Rian was especially a favorite. She starts off with a huge secret, but when it is revealed and she and Augie are in a tight spot, I loved how she reminded him that she's been on her own for awhile and can take care of herself. I did love how she let him help her too, once she learned to trust. The author does a great job of throwing in some romance into all of that action too!

5 out of 5 stars!

The CIA wants her captured and interrogated, but with a terrorist attack imminent, Abby may be the only person in a position to help them stop it. Nate must make a choice to either trust her or turn her in---but the wrong decision would clear the path for the largest attack on freedom the world has ever seen.

And time is running out.

My review

Second Look is another nail-biting suspense novel from Julie Bellon. I always thoroughly enjoy her books. They are always full of page turning suspense. This book had a great balance of suspense and romance. The romance between Nate and Abby was a great mix to the story. It didn't feel forced or rushed at all. Without giving anything away, I really liked Abby. She was written well and she had secrets of her own. She is also very smart and driven. A great lead character. There are great twists and turns on every page.

5 out of 5.

Timeless Romance Single: A Highlander's Hidden Heart by Julie Coulter Bellon

Book description

Despite being the daughter of a duke, shy Elizabeth Barrington becomes a target for the cruel whisperings of the ton. She would rather stay at home with her sketchbook indefinitely than give them more to gossip about, but when a dashing new earl arrives, everything changes. His Scottish brogue and easy acceptance draw her in and she finds herself falling in love. Before she can act on her feelings, however, her father promises her to a man who hides his cruel behavior behind a mask of civility. With her future at stake, Elizabeth must make a choice—do her duty or choose a love that could cost her everything.

Alec Ramsay never expected to inherit an earldom or settle in England, but he leaves behind his life in the Scottish Highlands and comes to London. After meeting his new neighbor, the beautiful and soft-spoken Lady Elizabeth, Alec can’t wait to further their acquaintance. It doesn’t take long in her company, however, for Alec to see he’s in danger of losing his heart. But when long-held prejudices rear their ugly head, Alec is caught between doing what is right and his new role as an English gentleman. Has he finally found the love he’s waited his whole life for, only to lose her in the web of unfair judgments and proper English traditions?

Love's Journey Home by Julie Coulter Bellon -- Blog Tour

Love's Journey Home (Lincoln Love Stories #2)

Author: Julie Coulter Bellon

Publisher: Stone Hall Books

ebook/paperback: 224 pages

ASIN: B079JVFQHL

FTC FYI: I received an ARC from the author, all views and opinions expressed are my own.

Goodreads Summary

Olivia Dalton has a reputation in the DA’s office—tough, thorough, and fierce when she’s closing a case. Those skills are essential in the courtroom, but not in the relationship department—until Mick Donovan crosses her path. Everyone thinks he’s a player, but when an unexpected situation arises, she glimpses an honorable man instead. Olivia is drawn to him, but he pushes her away, unable to shake the past that still haunts him.

Mick Donovan learned at a young age never to let anyone close because those you love never stay. Keeping people at arms-length has never been hard for him—until he meets Olivia Dalton. Mick is caught up in a case she’s prosecuting, and he can’t deny his attraction to her, but when she uncovers the past he’s kept carefully hidden, he’s sure she’ll turn away. Yet, even with all his secrets in the open, Olivia reaches out. Can he let his guard down long enough to let her in and take a chance on love?

My Review

I love Julie Bellon's books! I start her books and I feel I already know the characters. She writes with care and attention to detail. I enjoyed the small town setting. Olivia and Mick are fantastic characters. I instantly liked Mick. He is caring and helpful, yet misunderstood by many. His past is a sad one. Olivia is smart and tough. They both have a soft spot for a little boy that needed their help. I really enjoyed this book. Their relationship developed gradually and with care, which I appreciated. Both Mick and Olivia had their own issues they needed to work out. I did feel the story was missing that "conflict" between the characters, but the book is an easy, enjoyably sweet read.

4 out of 5 stars. I loved how the author had foster care in the book. It was handled well, showing up and down sides. Mostly the up sides of good people helping out kids in need.

My Review

The Capture quickly captures your attention from the start and does not stop until the last page.  Julie Bellon is the master of a romantic suspense novel and I love every book she writes.  The characters in The Capture are strong and the plot is very fast-paced and exciting.  The pacing is perfect, once you think things start to settle down, the action starts right up again.  Zaya is my hero.  All she endured while she was a prisoner was terrible, but I loved how she was able to triumph over it.  She had help with the amazing Julian. He also was a great character who did not stop until he was able to rescue Zaya, in more ways than one.

5 out of 5 stars.  This is book 3 of the series, but can be read as a standalone.  I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series!

Snippet #2

He was looking out the kitchen window when Mya came in. He could see her out of the corner of his eye, standing in the doorway, watching him. She looked undecided, as if she wanted to come in, but didn’t know if she should. “Is everything okay?” he asked finally, turning his face toward her.
“Yeah.” But she still didn’t sound sure.
He moved to the table and motioned her toward it. “Looks like a pretty quiet neighborhood. I don’t think we have anything to worry about.”
“That’s what I thought about the last place.” She shuddered slightly. “Watching those gunmen through that camera made me feel so helpless. I thought they were going to kill them, then come for us.” Her voice trailed off.  “I’ve lost so many people in my life.”
The vulnerability in her voice was unmistakable, the longing for connection. Jake saw himself in her statement, their similar losses forging an emotional bond he’d never felt with anyone else.  He put his hand on hers, needing to touch her. “You won’t lose me.” The attraction that had been simmering between them flared to life. He lifted her hand, letting his thumb run over her knuckles. “I promise.”  She sucked in a breath, unable to keep her eyes off him as he flipped her hand over palm up and pulled it to his mouth, kissing the inside of her wrist.
“Jake,” she whispered, leaning close.
He lifted his hand to cup her face and she nestled her cheek against it.

Goodreads Summary

**This novella is a continuation of Colby and Sophia's story from Ashes Ashes (Hostage Negotiation Team #2)**

As a suspect in Senator DeMarco's murder, Sophia Naziri worked hard to bring the true killer to justice and prove her innocence. But she pays a high personal price trying to clear her name when she's held hostage and nearly killed---and Sophia can't put it behind her just yet.

Matters get even more complicated when classified information regarding the murder is leaked. Sophia is besieged by the press and trapped even further by the memories that won't let her move on. In order to escape the situation, Sophia heads to a secluded cabin with Detective Colby Black so they can lay low and figure out who the leak is. But can Sophia find the peace she craves? Or will the circumstances that brought her and Colby together now drive them apart?

My Review

I really enjoyed this novella after-story for Colby and Sophia.  I love how we are able to see what happened to them after their first adventure in Ashes Ashes.  While reading, I was able to recall events from Ashes Ashes and was reliving all that these poor characters endured.  Julie does a fantastic job of building suspense and raising suspicions.  One character in particular was not so forgiving.  I enjoyed how Julie built the suspense and threw me off track to who was causing the trouble.  The pages turn quick in this engaging story and I hope that Julie will give us more after-their-story novellas from her other Hostage Negotiation books.

4 out of 5 stars.  Trust me, read this series from Julie, it is fabulous!

Revenge is a dish best served cold . . .

As the ex-wife of a law enforcement officer, Sarah Reed has known loneliness and loss. In order to cope, she makes a life for herself that's full of routine while building a wall of ice around her heart. Everything about her is as predictable as she can make it until a tiny detour for her ex-husband, Ron, changes her life forever. Caught in a bomb crisis, Sarah is taken hostage by a man who wants Ron and everyone around him to suffer---and his idea of suffering is more terrible than Sarah had ever dreamed.

Captain Ron Reed has seen the worst of humanity in his job with the Hostage Negotiation Team, but he never expected his past to come back with a vengeance---literally. Aaron Starks, a criminal explosives expert, has stolen next-gen bomb technology and uses it to force Ron to bargain for the lives of his team and his ex-wife, Sarah, the woman he still loves. But the situation escalates when Ron discovers that Starks has an even bigger objective in mind---using the bomb to show how vulnerable America and her people truly are.

Ron is willing to risk everything to save his country and those he loves, but when negotiations break down, will his sacrifice be too little too late?

My Review

I am thrilled to be part of this blog tour.  My mother-in-law is a huge fan of Julie's as well and I have enjoyed all of the books I had read of hers.  Ring Around the Rosie grabs you quick and doesn't let up until the last page, suddenly I had read 10 chapters.  The story is gripping, suspenseful and very enjoyable.  I loved how the author jump-started the story right away with a heart-racing hostage situation that makes it impossible to stop reading!  Julie knows how to write bad guys and Aaron Starks is as bad as they get.  He was so evil and knew exactly how to push Ron's buttons to get what he wanted.  I also enjoyed how Ron and Sarah were able to reconnect after their divorce and realize how much they still cared about each other.  Each character is written well.  You instantly care and worry for them.  These characters are like old friends and you want them to be all right.

Another great installment of the Hostage Negotiation Team Series from Julie Bellon.  You can count on  her writing to be solid and the story to be immensely entertaining.

Excerpt

Her words were cut off by a blast of hot air and fire, an explosion so large it blew them all backward. Ron hit the floor hard and lay there dazed and groggy. Glass and debris rained down. Confetti-sized menus and napkins floated like snowflakes in slow motion all around him. For a second the entire world was a silent tunnel with him at the end of it. It would be so easy to just close his eyes and let the blackness suck him down into unconsciousness. But he couldn’t. Not yet. Get up. Get everyone out.

“Sarah?” he croaked. He tried again. “Sarah?” His legs felt like lead and the urge to just lie back was stronger than ever. No. Keep moving. “Claire?” He coughed and tried to catch a breath, but couldn’t get the oxygen to his lungs. With a shallow intake of air, he turned over on his stomach and used his arms to raise himself to a sitting position. The inside of the diner looked like a destructive madman had rearranged it. The booths were toppled or stacked on top of each other. The hostess station was next to him now. The only thing that was still standing where it had before the blast was the four walls, the ceiling, and the antique counter. “Sarah,” he called again. “Bart? Colby?” The little girl. Was she still in the back with her mother?

No one answered. Where is everyone? He crawled forward. Sarah had been nearly right beside him. Now there was no sign of her. He rubbed his eyes and coughed. Moving slowly, he prayed she was alive. It didn’t take long to find her sandwiched between an overturned booth bench and the podium for the hostess station. With some effort he managed to maneuver close to her, the adrenaline kicking in as his blood pounded through his system. Don’t let her be dead. Not like this.

Praise for Ring Around the Rosie

"Julie Coulter Bellon proves once again she is a master at capturing her audience from the very first page . . . Unlike most suspense novels, the most suspenseful portion of Ring Around the Rosie is the first two thirds of the book . . . Suspense readers as well as anyone who just enjoys an absorbing story will enjoy this one."  ---Jennie Hansen, Meridian Magazine

Julie Coulter Bellon is one of my favorite romantic suspense writers, and this book is her best so far! It charters deep emotions and a complex plot. At the same time it traces the resurrection of a marriage. It has good writing, good plotting, and a very satisfying ending.  ---Award-winning romance author, G.G. Vandagriff

My Review

Ashes Ashes, is a fast-paced thriller that you will finish quickly, since you won't be able to stop reading.  As with the other books of Julie's I've read, the characters are likable and very well written and the plot is enjoyable.  I really liked Colby and Sophia.  Colby would be the perfect guy-next-door neighbor.  A great cook, clean freak, and friendly.  I liked how Julie would give the reader hints throughout, and ended her chapters in such a way it kept me reading eagerly.

4 out of 5 stars.  I was also happy for an update on Rafe and Claire, characters from All Fall Down
