Inventing Vivian by Jennifer Moore - blog tour/giveaway

Inventing Vivian

Author: Jennifer Moore

Publisher: Covenant Communications

Paperback/ebook 224 pages

FTC FYI: I received an eARC from the publisher. All views and opinions expressed are my own.

Summary

Ladies of London’s High Society are known for their social graces and poise. Vivian Kirby boasts neither of these enviable qualities, though she does offer impressive conversation on chemical compositions. Unfortunately, it appears that not many men want a brilliant wife. So it is that Vivian finds kinship with a group of young women who embrace each other’s differences: The Blue Orchid Society.

After an extended stay in China, Lord Benedict has returned transformed to his family’s estate, where an encounter with Vivian, whose scientific knowledge he once undermined, leaves him determined to make amends. He arranges to help forward her research—anonymously, of course. Through letters, Vivian establishes a warm friendship with her secret benefactor, even as she’s unexpectedly drawn into a murder investigation that forces her to work alongside Benedict to unearth the truth. Soon, Vivian fears she may be falling in love with two men, never suspecting that they are one and the same.

Review

The Blue Orchid series is quickly becoming a favorite. I love how different and special each of the ladies are. Vivian is no exception. Her love of science is her drive and I loved her passion and even her stubbornness. However, Lord Benedict stole the show for me. He was wonderful and kind and a true hero. I very much enjoyed the Chinese elements in the story. Jennifer Moore does a fantastic job of telling a lovely, captivating story, all while giving you extras that keep the pages turning.

Goodreads Summary

One year ago Charlotte Bower’s life was ripped apart when Creek Indians attacked, killed her parents, and separated her from her young brother—now, she will stop at nothing to find him. After a year of captivity, she has finally made her escape. Her search will begin in New Orleans, where captives were taken after the raid. But how to reach a city hundreds of miles away? As she watches men boarding a waiting ship, Charlotte formulates a bold plan: if it’s men they need for the ship’s crew, it’s a man they’ll get. Taking on her childhood nickname, Charlie, it is all too easy to gain passage on the New Orleans-bound vessel. Easy, that is, until Charlie is caught . . .
From the moment he sets eyes on the new deckhand, Captain Alden Thatcher knows one thing for certain: Charlie Bower is no man. But for reasons of his own, he keeps her secret. As their journey progresses, however, the voyage is increasingly ill-fated. With danger ever present, Charlie and the captain find themselves relying on one another in ways they’d never imagined. As they draw closer to her goal, Charlotte is faced with the most perilous adventure of all—an adventure that may risk her heart.

My review

Charlotte's Promise is another wonderful book from Jennifer Moore. I absolutely love her books. They are always full of heart and adventure. I instantly loved Charlotte. Her determination and drive were inspiring. Alden too was wonderful. I really enjoyed how "Charlie" did not fool him and I was glad he knew the secret so early on. This author always delivers an enjoyable story, all while giving the reader a history lesson too.

I have read and loved all of her books, and when I read a new one, it becomes my new favorite. I have passed her books to my daughter, who is a huge fan of Jennifer's. As always, I was quickly drawn into the story with the engaging plot and enchanting characters. I enjoyed the relationship between  Lydia and Jacob. I really enjoyed Lydia's journey.

My Review

Christmas Grace is a delight.  I loved each novella.  Even though the stories were shorter, I felt the characters were developed and the plots were enjoyable.  Each book brought the spirit of Christmas with heartfelt romance.  I loved all the stories, but I especially enjoyed Let Nothing You Dismay by Jennifer Moore. I appreciated the quick read, but I still left satisfied with the touching stories. Each story felt already established with characters and the set up of the story.  This is the perfect book to get you in the holiday spirit. Christmas will be here before we know it!

My Review
Miss Leslie's Secret is another wonderful book by Jennifer Moore. I laughed, I cried and at the end, I was felt content and appreciated the wonderful book I just finished. I loved the Scottish setting and the accents were enjoyable. Each character was perfectly written. Aileen, Conall and Jamie were amazing. Dores also was a fabulous supporting character. What a tough and spunky lady she was. I loved it when she was around. I appreciated the father figure roll Conall had with Jamie and I loved their relationship. There is particular lovely scene with the two of them that was very enduring and sweet.

But her hopes were shattered when she learned of his death and of her new role as heiress of the largest sheep farm in New Wales. But now, ten years later, Sarah has defied the odds and become a successful businesswoman much to the chagrin of her male counterparts. Hardened by the dishonesty of both her fellow ranchers and the felons in her employ, Sarah has learned one important truth: no one is to be trusted.

Daniel Burton is a lucky man. Sentenced to death for his role in a horse-race scandal, Daniel was granted reprieve thanks to the influence of his wealthy relatives. Now, rather than death, Daniel faces exile in Australia an opportunity to put past mistakes behind him. But when he purchases land with the intention of farming it, he unwittingly arouses the wrath of his new neighbor, Sarah. What begins as a battle of wits, however, soon becomes a warm friendship and perhaps something more. But when Daniel's secret past is revealed, will Sarah be able forgive yet another deception?

My Review

Miss Whitaker Opens Her Heart is another win for Jennifer Moore. I love her books and I can always count on her for an enjoyable read.  I really had no idea what took place in Australia during this time period. It was fascinating.  Jenny does a great job of writing romance, she also excels at writing this time period and introducing the reader into something they may not be familiar with.  I loved Sarah.  She is tough but also vulnerable.  Daniel had been through some tough times, most of it brought on by foolish decisions, but I appreciated how he fought his way back.  I loved the back and forth between Sarah and Daniel.  The setting was intriguing and was a huge part of the story too.

A Place for Miss Snow by Jennifer Moore -- Blog Tour

A Place for Miss Snow

Author: Jennifer Moore

Publisher: Covenant Communications

Published: September 2016

ISBN13: 9781524400361

Paperback: 224 pages

FTC FYI: I received a paperback copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Goodreads Summary

Miss Diana Snow is everything a British chaperone should be—she finds satisfaction in order and depends wholly upon the rules of decorum as she negotiates the isle of Greece with her young charge. But Miss Snow's prim and proper exterior masks a disquieting past: orphaned and alone in the world, she has only her stiff upper lip to rely on. When a brief encounter with a handsome stranger challenges her rules of propriety, Diana is unwittingly drawn into an adventure that will turn her ordered world upside down.

Alexandros Metaxas is a Greek spy working to recruit individuals to the cause of revolution. His mission seems to be going perfectly until he encounters Diana Snow, a captivating—if slightly cold—beauty. When their paths cross again, the ill-fated reunion threatens all Alex has been fighting for. But more importantly, it places Diana's life in jeopardy. There is only one way to save her: they must put themselves at the mercy of the most powerful pirate family in the Mediterranean. Soon, Diana is plunged into a fantastic world of gypsy curses, blood feuds, and unexpected romance. But when a bitter vendetta places her in mortal danger, will she have the courage to fight for life and love?

My Review

A PLACE FOR MISS SNOW is a sweet story with great characters, and a beautiful setting.  I thought Jennifer did a great job in capturing the time period and events.  Diana was fascinating, at times too stubborn, but after finding out why, it was understandable.  Alex also had a tragic back story, but I loved his "cause" and what a great character he was.  Determined, yet playful.   The supporting characters were wonderfully written too.  I loved Elena, Sophia, and the pirates.  There are many scenes that stood out to me as "favorites" but I especially loved Alex's haircut and Diana's preparations for a town wedding, it was nice having her see herself (and things) in a positive way.  I loved how Diana found a happy life in the small simple town and how it changed her for the better.  Jennifer's author note at the end was great too.  I love to see an author invested in their books and research.  One thing I would have appreciated was a pronunciation guide as some of the Greek words were, to me, a little trickier to read.  That being said, Diana really grew a during the course of the book and I loved how she triumphed at the end.

5 out of 5 stars.  I will read any book from this talented author.

Change of Heart by Jennifer Moore -- Spotlight

Change of Heart
Change of Heart by Jennifer Moore
This summer, Nathaniel Cavanaugh vacations in Lobster Cove to spend quality time with his kids after his estranged wife’s tragic death. Successful and well-connected, he is on the fast-track to the highest legal positions in the country, but his family life suffers. After an accident throws Val nearly into his lap and costs her a job opportunity, Nathaniel surprises himself by overlooking her outlandish appearance and lack of qualifications to offer her a job as his nanny for the summer.
Valdosta McKinley wishes for an internship at a Paris Art Institute to use her newly acquired art-history skills. She knows Nathaniel could never develop feelings for a girl from a trailer in a rural West Virginia holler—a lesson she learned the hard way years earlier.
Will pursuit of their professional goals require Nathaniel and Val to give up the dream of being a family?

Excerpt

Val clung to him, feeling utterly ridiculous, and at the same time completely content in his arms. “I’m sorry,” she said, once she trusted her voice.
“The summer’s been good, hasn’t it?” Nathaniel laid his cheek on the top of her head and held her tighter. “I’ll miss this porch most of all.”
“Me, too.” She pressed her face against his chest, a fresh wave of tears rushing into her eyes. She’d sat in this very place, unloading her darkest secrets, her greatest fears, been comforted and listened, and even... The memory of Nathaniel’s kiss was nearly more than she could take. Her heart felt like it was being squeezed, and she gasped for air. She took a step back, releasing her grip.
    “Val?”
Swallowing against her tight throat, she raised her gaze to his.
He lifted a wet strand of hair from her face, and his gaze dropped to her lips before returning to hers.
If only she could look into those blue eyes every day, be held by him every time she cried, if only...
    “Daddy! Val!”
The sound of Ruby’s voice broke Val’s blissful bubble. She must have gotten impatient and unbuckled her carseat.
“We’re on the porch, Ruby.” Nathaniel’s gaze didn’t leave Val’s face.
Val rubbed her fingers over her cheeks one more time before hurrying to meet Ruby. She glanced back and saw Nathaniel still watching her until she rounded the side of the house.
