Walker Kent, professional football player, hates the press. After a year of dealing with a dishonorable discharge, he’s in no mood to play nice at a bachelor auction. When a beautiful actress buys him, then announces he’s her fiancé … his barely endurable night has just turned to purgatory.
After discovering her ex is engaged to her best friend (ex best friend, thank you very much) Scarlett Powers is desperate to find a fake fiancé to take to her brother’s wedding to show the happy couple she’s NOT a pity case. Good thing she spots the perfect bad-boy football player to take with her—Walker Kent. Too bad he turns her down!
After re-negotiating terms of the fake fiancé deal, Scarlett soon finds herself in the middle of a controlling father, a cougar mother-in-law, and a crazy bridezilla who wants to personalize the wedding with DIY craft projects for the guests. When Walker sweeps her off her feet by taking her on an ‘off books’ date, she finds herself on a Ferris wheel, sharing things with him she’s never told another living soul.
When a secret comes to light and she is forced to tell the truth, she has to make a choice—walk away or risk losing the only thing that’s ever been real.

A Gentle Heart by Christie Logan -- Book Blast

A Gentle Heart by Christie Logan
Ambitious realtor Alex has plans for his life—big plans—and getting dumped by his fiancée won’t sidetrack him. He’ll have to face her again at an important business function, but he won’t let himself be the object of pity and scorn. What better way to show the world—and his ex— how well he’s doing than to arrive with a beautiful woman on his arm? A woman he finds, of all places, behind the lingerie counter of a department store.
Tyffanie has dreams that extend far beyond her sales counter, but she’s been burned by men only interested in her looks. Deep inside, she’s still the gawky, freckle-faced girl other kids used to tease. When handsome, successful Alex enters her life, everything changes. He’s the first to look beneath the surface, respect her, and care about her hopes and dreams.
Alex discovers there is so much more to Tyffanie than outward beauty. He’s falling in love with her kind soul and gentle heart when he must decide how far he’s willing to pursue success and all its trappings. Because his need to win at all costs may cost him Tyffanie’s love.

Excerpt
“Jeeves, huh?” He tried to pet the cat too but when it slunk away from him, Alex realized he had a rival for Tyffanie’s affection. “He looks awfully solid for a street cat.”
“I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who feeds him.”
The cat meowed loudly, as though he objected to them talking about him as if he weren’t there.
“Oh, I think he’s hungry,” Tyffanie said. “I’ve got some food upstairs for him. Would you mind just waiting a minute while I grab it?”
So she wasn’t going to ask him up? A wave of disappointment hit Alex, followed by frustration. He wanted to be alone with Tyffanie, not stand here and babysit some dopey cat. Come on, guy, think of something! “Those stairs are awfully dark. You should let me go with you—”
“Oh, it’s fine, don’t worry. I’ll be right back.” She pushed open the door and disappeared inside.
Alex scowled at the cat, and he could have sworn the silly animal smirked back.

Paperback: 261 pages

Goodreads Summary

Is love stronger than grief?

After the death of her Aunt Jetty, the woman who raised her, Matilda White packs a single suitcase, leaving behind her home, her small town in Kansas, and the man she’s supposed to marry.

Henry Craig is a writer—if only he could find the right words. While sitting at a worn table in a Detroit library he sees a new librarian, Matidla, and suddenly the world erupts with words.

Six years later, Matilda and Henry load their young daughter Lucy, two antique typewriters, and a box of Henry’s love letters into the car and head off to a new life. But one snowstorm and a slippery road take it all away. In that black moment of tragedy Matilda turns to Henry and says, “I wish I’d never met you.”

The world goes dark.

Matilda wakes up in Jetty’s dilapidated house with no memory of the last six years. Beside her on the bed, a book and an antique typewriter.

Henry wakes up in his familiar spot in the library, a book and old typewriter squatting on the table beside him. He can’t remember the last six years.

Can words on a typed page, sent from one typewriter to another, push aside tar-thick pain and resurrect love?

My Review

I was so excited to read another book from this talented author. Teri Harman is the author of The Moonlight Trilogy, a series that I thoroughly enjoyed. I liked A Thousand Sleepless Nights just a much. The premise and idea of this story is very intriguing. The themes of the book were relatable and the all of characters are engrossing. Abby was a delight. I loved the POV changes between Henry and Matilda. It kept the pages turning quickly to find out what would happen next. And to keep up with all the whys and hows along the way of the character's journey. When tragedy happens to Matilda and Henry, Matilda's last words to Henry start a chain of events that spiral into lost memories and a journey back to each other.

4 out of 5 stars.

The last thing sixteen-year-old Dulce Donovan wants to do is move away from her friends and hot new crush. But her parents insist, and she has no choice but to get on the airplane taking her to Lima, Peru.
When the plane crashes in the middle of the Amazon jungle, Dulce feels lucky to survive. But as she faces injury, disease, and deadly insects and reptiles, she discovers that the price of living is high. Injured and miles from any civilization, Dulce must push her way through a dangerous jungle, looking for any miracle that might come her way.
Praise for the Book
“RESCUE is exciting and fresh and inspiring. When Dulce is one of the only survivors of a plane crash deep in the Amazon jungle, she faces all kinds of dangers as she fights to survive. A fascinating insight into one of the most mysterious places in the world and a strong heroine that will make you cheer for her determination.”
“I found myself unable to put the book down. The story is well-crafted, with twists and surprises that kept me a little on edge, frankly–wondering what would suddenly leap out (or slither up to!) Dulce next. Aylworth cleverly weaves her considerable understanding of survival skills and of the native peoples of the Amazon throughout the story. I found myself mentally cheering Dulce on, impressed with her ingenuity at dealing with the harsh realities of her environment.”
“I really liked this book. It was very interesting how this young woman was able to survive this terrible tragedy.”
Excerpts
“For a time I just sit, my head pressed backward against the seat, my eyes closed, thinking of how desperately I don’t want to be here, how I can’t face this, how frantically I want this all to go away. But the minutes pass and I’m still hanging in the tree, recognizing that if no one has come to my rescue yet, it’s possible no one is coming. I may just have to rescue myself.”
“‘I am not going to die here,’ I say aloud. Then I shout it to the whole forest: ‘I am not going to die here!’ I grasp that little lump in the tree bark with my left hand, reach up with my right, and grab my toe, yanking it free. There’s a moment of elation until I realize my left foot is slipping. I scrabble with both hands, trying to find anything to hang onto, but there’s nothing. The next thing I know I am sliding, the mapajo’s slick bark slipping by beneath me. Then there is nothing but air.”
“I’m almost out of the clearing when I’m stopped cold. What I see looks like a thick, bright green vine curled around the limb of a tree. What I recognize is the ambush-hunting strategy of a pit viper, a seriously venomous threat. I know what it is because Chambi pointed one out on one of our jungle walks. Silently thanking him, I change direction. We’ll avoid that risk by leaving this clearing in an entirely different direction. Even as I think it, I realize it may be foolish; we could run into poisonous snakes anywhere. I’ll just have to be careful to keep a close watch on the foliage.”
“I’m home! I don’t know how I got here, but I am standing on the porch of our home in Santa Cruz and there’s my mother! She’s running to me and I’m running to her. She is saying, “Marissa! Oh Marissa!” over and over and I just keep saying, “Mom, Mom, I missed you so much!” We hold each other and cry and then …I wake up aching, wishing my mother were here. I’ve never missed her or needed her more than I do now. I have never imagined I would miss her or want her this much. The missing is so painful, it almost chokes me.”

Perfect Set by Melanie Jacobson -- Blog Tour/Giveaway

Perfect Set

Author: Melanie Jacobson

Publisher: Covenant

Published: May 1, 2018

ISBN13: 9781524404253

Paperback: 226 pages

FTC FYI: I received a copy from the publisher, all views and opinions expressed are my own.

Goodreads Summary

Bree Mercer is an ambitious sports reporter who has risen through the ranks to land her dream job. Basking in the sun, sea, and seriously cute guys in her new singles ward, things couldn't be better. That is, until she's assigned to write a feature on the one person she can't stand—professional beach volleyball player Kade Townsend. A typical cocky athlete, Kade's previous attempt to woo her was foiled by Bree's hard-and-fast rule: don't date athletes. Ever.

Kade loathes the media, and for good reason: when his hard-partying ways were exposed by a reporter who claimed to be his friend, the scandal rocked his entire family. Now reformed, Kade has put his life back together, and he has no interest in talking to reporters—least of all Bree Mercer. But when the pair is thrown together despite their best efforts, their chemistry is undeniable. They can't seem to put the brakes on their feelings—until their connection threatens Bree's reputation and Kade's hard-won redemption. Now they must decide if there is a place for love in their plans for the future.

My Review

I was so excited to have another book from Melanie Jacobson to read. I had been looking forward to reading a new book from her for awhile. Perfect Set was definitely worth the wait. It was such a fun and entertaining read. From the setting on the California beach, and the fabulous characters, plus many funny moments, made this book absolutely perfect. Bree is awesome. She is smart, ambitious and has the best job. When she meets Kade, she isn't impressed by their first meeting, but once she gets to know him... she still isn't sure what to think. That is what I liked most, both Bree and Kade weren't sure about each other. Kade because of personal reasons with reports, Bree because of family issues. That is what made the book very enjoyable to read and kept me up way too late, trying to find out what happens. Bree has a lot to deal with in this book, and she handled things well and at her own time. Events happened I wasn't surprised with from the set up, but in the end, I was very pleased with the outcome and the lessons learned by both characters.

5 out of 5 stars.
